Duffus Castle

We all slept late again.  There were no morning runs.  I hadn’t the energy and TT can’t run.  We eventually headed out to see if we could visit Duffus Castle today.  First off we stopped for a look around St peter’s Church Church.  It was a nice ruin with  some lovely old graves.  We were rather wary of an over protective mother sea gull though, so we didn’t hang around too long.  We were able to park at Duffus Castle today  so we had a wander around the ruins and watched the Poseidons coming in to land.

I had spotted an American man wandering around with bagpipes.  He then took it upon himself to stand at the highest part of the castle and play and play and play – disturbing the peace.  We retreated to the excellent coffee shed and enjoyed drinks and cakes and the sun threatened to come out.  Next stop was Spynie Church to look for Ramsay MacDonald’s grave. We found it and also got a good view of Spynie Palace – which is closed to visitors.

Next stop was Elgin for the highlight of TT’s holiday – a visit to Gordon and McPhail – whisky merchants.  He left laden and we then headed to his favoured spot at Kingston for a late picnic lunch.  We three had a wander, but TT’s Achilles was really  not happy so he headed back to the car to read his book while BB and I walked a bit further out past the firing range.  We walked past the site of a recent wildfire.  It was a pleasant walk – and flat, but BB was fed up!  We turned round and made our way back to the car.

I went for my last Moray coast run and then we enjoyed a tea of leftovers before packing and tidying commenced.  We have to be out of the cottage by 9am tomorrow.  Hope we don’t sleep in.

Plane spotting at Duffus Castle.
