They'll never find them here!

Another hot hot day but possibly the last one for a while, as friends southwest of us have already been posting about lightning storms and flash floods.

In the garden this dragonfly has made the quite sensible decision to not lay her eggs on the pond. Hungry koi take no prisoners and even though I've tried to make some fish free areas through the use of marginal planting they simply barge their way through. Scoff, scoff.

So here we have the remains of a wooden sleeper once holding the space between garden flowers and grass, but now slowly returning to the soil. Stab, stab, stab, goes the Southern Hawker's ovipositor, and with each stab a few potential new dragons.

I have no idea how viable this normally quite dry refuge might be, but I guess time will tell. Probably, over the next twelve hours, they'll get quite a drenching...
