Hambleton

This morning we went to The Finch's Arms ( who knew finches had arms?) a very nice hotel/pub/eatery in the Rutland village of Humbleton.  This is the only village on a spit of land that stretches out into the centre of the reservoir.  The reason for our visit was to see Maureen and Ian who, coincidentally, are also holidaying in Rutland and staying at said hotel.

So we sat in the hotel garden and had a drink and chat before going off for a little walk, through the village and to a reservoir viewpoint (incidentally M&I have a room complete with balcony and seating with a view of the water, they are regulars there!).

On leaving Hambleton we went to the Rutland Aqua Park at Whitwell. We had half a thought of catching the Rutland Belle pleasure cruiser that plys it's trade on Rutland Water but judging by the number of people waiting it was going to be pretty full, with not a lot, if any, social distancing.  In fact we watched the loading and the boat certainly ended up chock-a-block so we made the right decision not to embark.

Later we came back to our accommodation and watched the exciting quarterfinal tennis match where Britain's Emma Raducanu won to move forward to the US Open semifinals.

With a nod to today's Wild Wednesday hosted by Cailleach, here's a couple of wild ducks and a gull, studiously ignoring one another,  by the banks of the reservoir.
