S is for September and also for Spiders

This not so itsy bitsy spider is a Cross Orb Weaver and he was hanging out on a fern by my front door.  There are over 620 species of spider in Maine but none are poisonous.  90 new varieties were discovered in the last two years!  He was a bit shy so I wasn't able to capture the cross on his back but I saw it as turned and ducked behind a leaf.  September is a great time for spider viewing and I find myself clearing some webs on the porch on a daily basis otherwise my house would look like the Addams Family house!  Oh well, Halloween will be here before you know it!
