St. Ninian's Isle

This is a view of the chapel on St. Ninian's Isle where, in 1958, a hoard of Pictish silver was discovered during an archaeological dig. The original pieces are in the Scottish National Museum and are simply stunning.

In the background you can see the sand bar that connects the island with the mainland, called a tombolo it is the largest in the UK.

We had a lovely day of sun and cloud with a cooling breeze, perfect for walking all over the island, then pottering at the water's edge while admiring the varied rock formations.
