Strange Time of Year for Sweet Peas!

Normally, here in Portland, Oregon, these beauties are planted in March, bloom in June and are crushed with the first heat of the summer. Either that or they succumb to mildew. However, I planted these at the base of a trellis in my back garden in a thick carpet of cool, dark sedum. It took months for these shoots to finally emerge and all of a sudden, about 2 weeks ago, they were in full bloom! Just in time for the cooler September weather. I love sweet peas - the fragrance is divine!
