Subdued Bee

I found this fairly unresponsive bee in the only morning glory flower left in the front hedge. I think it might be a common carder bee. These are relatively small, social bumblebees. They emerge early in the spring and can be seen until November. Only the young queens survive after that and hibernate through the winter. They got their name because they comb material together (carding) to create a covering for the cells containing their larvae. In my extra hooks can be seen at the leg joints, maybe it uses these for carding? Card is an Old English word for tease or comb.

I took Ollie dog to the vet for a medication review, she's on a low dose of painkillers and anti-inflammatories for her arthritic knees. She was a very good girl and the vet said her coat is the best she has ever seen on a German shepherd dog. :)
