The Search for Colour....

My friend Mary is visiting this week and our plan for today was to go for a walk at a conservation area near here to search for some autumn colour. It is the kind of thing one does on Thanksgiving weekend  .....But first, we had an important stop to make.

Mary's husband is buried in a cemetery near here and every time she returns to Ontario, she goes to his grave and leaves fresh flowers. Today was the day. We picked up a bouquet and drove to the cemetery.

It has been 30 years since Mary's husband died...and shortly after his passing, she moved away to the Maritimes. Can it really be that long? 30 years?....How quickly they have passed. So many memories...so much has happened ...so much has changed...One thing that has remained constant though, despite time and distance is our friendship..so that can be celebrated!

It was not a bright sunny day, but it was warm and the cemetery is a lovely place with some colour in its trees. We were tempted to change our plan and enjoy our walk there, but the conservation area nearby promised a walking path through the woods, along a creek and around a large pond where one might find ducks and other water fowl. It seemed as if there would be more photo-ops there...so off we went.

We did see some colour - not as much as we had hoped - but the real disappointment was the pond - it was gone! Or under construction - We should have known something was up by the ambient sound as we were strolling through the woods ..not bird song - but bulldozers!
Still, we got some fresh air and exercise and of course some blips.

As I write, we are sitting by the fire, munching on left-over sugary treats from last night's book club meeting, and reading, trying to make a dent in that pile of library books we picked up on our way home.

Life is good. Friends are good. Memories are good.
