Rings and Crows

Overcast and mild all day. But you can’t prove it by us - we were sweat balls before and after our trip home. Got up, had breakfast and packed up to leave. Once that sweaty job was finished, we showered at the bath house and headed home around 12:30 pm. We found a Mom and Pop cafe in Oak Grove, Va. for lunch. Their decor was quaint as you can see in my bottom photo. Our lunch was very good as was the service. Back on the road and hubby decided to take a slight detour. When we worked in Dahlgren, many of our farewell luncheons were in Colonial Beach, a small touristy town on the Potomac River. The new route suited me because coincidentally, I’d read a FB post this week about “The Bell House”, built in 1885 in this town. Alexander Graham Bell inherited this home in 1907 and used it as a summer residence. I found the following bits and pieces of info on line about the controversy of who actually invented the telephone. “Alexander Graham Bell is the father of the telephone. After all it was his design that was first patented in 1876. However, he was not the first inventor to come up with the idea of the telephone. Elisha Gray, a professor at Oberlin College, applied for a caveat of the telephone on the same day Bell applied for his patent of the telephone. And even earlier, Antonio Meucci, an Italian immigrant, began developing the design of a talking telegraph or telephone in 1849. So, several inventors had the idea but Bell prepared well and got the first patent.” I learned something new today. The rest of the trip was uneventful. We traveled on rural roads with minimal traffic. We pulled into our driveway around 4:20 and filled large plastic tubs with much of what’s in the camper. We hope to completely empty it tomorrow and clean it thoroughly to get the best trade in value. We’ve been very gentle with the camper and it truly looks good as new inside. The sun has faded part of the exterior decals but they will be easy to replace. Our parish school had its spaghetti dinner tonight and it was delicious. Folks seemed to love our raffle items and I won a beautiful mum as a door prize. Four of the grands were there and it was great seeing them. Thanks for stopping by. Thought I’d share a Bell quote tonight. “Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” - Alexander Graham Bell
