the end of the road

We were up and out on the road before sunrise, since there were many miles to walk to Finisterre. I was feeling a little sad that our Camino was finally coming to an end.

By midday, we had already walked 8.5 miles, with another 10 to go. It was easy walking, mostly on forest tracks as far as Cee, where we stopped for lunch at a small Italian restaurant.

Our plan had been to walk the final 2.5 miles to the lighthouse tomorrow morning, but once we had checked into the hotel in Finisterre, we knew that we would finish the walk today, and decided to buy food to eat while watching the sun set over the sea.

Sarah and Luke made a quick dash to the beach for a swim, but after 18.5 miles, I needed a bit of a rest before setting off again to walk the extra 2.5 (and 2.5 back again).

Of course we weren't alone, as watching the sunset is a popular thing to do here :-) At the End of the World, there is a lighthouse, hotel, bar, gift shop and a car park named in honour of Stephen Hawking. There is also a peace pole.

It was still an emotional moment, and the end of a very special journey.

34 days spent walking 480 Camino miles.
