The Chantry House

Awoke to a damp morning in Hampton and when we set off for Henley it began to rain properly. Visited my ancient relative near Maidenhead and stopped for a coffee before going on to Henley.

Clear enough to sit outside for a pub lunch before going on to visit a friend who used to know my late grandfather. Lots of good Henley chat followed by a look at some of our favourite places in the town. The Chantry House, which stands next to St Mary's Church beside Henley Bridge, was built with timber 'felled in the spring of 1461'. Amazing what the experts can find out!

Dusty Springfield's 'grave marker' is just out of sight to the left, tho' she's not buried here..
