End of the Crop

The cold weather is starting to set in now. I have left some of the hotter chillies on the plants to keep them for fresh use, but the mild ones and green peppers have now been harvested. Time to clear the raised beds, get down the winter weed suppressant coverings and prepare the seeds for next year’s plants. We have decided not to put the big squashes (pumpkins, butternuts and courgettes) in the same place as they invaded everything this year. They will have a spot of their own to give us more chance to manage the rest of the veg.  The asparagus will be staying where it is and is still green at the moment; surprising that it has taken a while to die back. hopefully we will eat our first home-grown spears next spring. Onwards and upwards…..
