No ordinary fly

As far as my research has led me, I believe this is a striped dung fly. They normally inhabit fields with the dung of live stock because that's where they lay their eggs. There's not a lot of dung around here, with Smokey fastidiously burying hers and most dog owners picking up after them so I'm a bit surprised to find them in the garden.
