A day in the life

BeatUs

I had a full day at the theatre in Kalmar on my first day as a sound-technician for a band, specialising in playing music by The Beatles. The band call themselves "BeatUs". They were very skilled and professional, having played behind major artists in Sweden for years. This project is something they do on the side, just for fun. It was like hearing a record, but live, every detail was chiseled out and played with care. The singing was exact, sometimes their voices actually sounded like The Beatles too.

My own opinion of my own work was that I was doing good, it's long since I handled the sound for a rock concert. It got louder than I would have wanted but it's very hard to keep things nice and low when there are drums involved on the stage, they sort of set the basic volume that everybody has to match.

They did two shows, the first one went brilliant, at the evening performance I had some frustrating unexplainable network problems that made the sound come and go a couple of times. I hate being dependant on digital software, it leaves me so vulnerable and there's nothin I can do about it. The problem went on for only a short while though but I can't help letting things like that affect my view of my work. The audience, and the band, was happy about the evening though, and so was I -as a whole.
