Blackbuck

We went for a walk near Fawley today and came across this rather unusual creature: researching reveals it to be a Blackbuck (aka an Indian Antelope) - voted "most likely to be a pirate judging by its name" it roams and leaps the wilds of India and Nepal so we're not quite sure what it's doing in Buckinghamshire! Due to its excellent horns and cool reverse-racoon patterning. it was a favourite hunting target for the very rich until someone realised there were very few of them left! Part of its protection came about because an Indian film star was caught shooting a couple of them after they'd just been put on the endangered list.

The extra is a deer we came across later in our walk, surrounded by lovely autumn colours: we think it's a Sika Deer but we're not sure.

(These creatures are on the estate of the late Sir William McAlpine who collected rare species. We also saw some Père David deer from China.)
