Living my dream

B-Day minus 2=

= build-up day 5.

Dinner at Fleur's Place in Moeraki.

Here we are well-fed. The photographer was one of the waiting staff who told us that photography is part of the job description. She certainly took a good series of shots for us.

I spent the day in Moeraki. First with Bean’s former owners for coffee and garden chats. Then a walk and onto a friend’s crib next to the beach, where I read my book and Bean snoozed, with the sound of surf in the background.

The meal at Fleur’s was the perfect end to a sunny relaxed day. It is one of the foremost fish restaurants on the South Island. Fleur herself is always there, nattering with the diners.

It is a wooden shed on the wharf, beyond which the local fishing boats moor. Those boats supply Fleur with a daily catch, so you can always be sure of the freshest of fresh fish. And it is always cooked with simplicity. Always delicious.

The walls around the tables are covered in messages written by diners, including comments from Rick Stein and Rod Stewart amongst the hoipoloi.

Day 6 is a movie…
