An old rose.

Picked the rose this morning as we came back down from visiting some neighbours but it started to fall apart as soon as I got it. So I saved the petals and put it on the table when I got home. It's from an old rose vine that grows up into the trees alongside the creek. It's been there for many, many years as it grew over the old dairy that had been built over the creek. The house belonging to this burnt down in 1930, but I am not sure when the house was first built.
No-one has been able to name the rose, and it is very hard to get to grow from cuttings. But it does sucker if some of the branches come into contact with the ground. I have managed to get one growing from a piece of this, but it still isn't as rampant as the original. I think it likes the water and the silty soil that gets washed around its roots after a flood. It used to grow to the top of a willow tree that grew on the creek banks, but the willow has long since died, and the rose is still going strong.
It has the wonderful perfume which seems to be stronger on wet days, and it produces flowers for most of the year, even if it is only one or two at times.
Yes, we had rain!! Got 11 mls since the early hours of the morning. So it's raindrops on its petals.
We had taken the pups along with us to launch the boat, and Whisky (the cat) followed us down the drive. When we came back, she was sitting out on the road, in the rain, waiting for us.
