Pigeons Welcome!

Plastic ones on purple poppy wreaths at least! I took this photo on my phone whilst in Lincoln station this morning, heading over to Meg. The wreath was made by school children to commemorate animals who aid the military in conflict.

Animals can even be awarded the Dickin medal. Of the 53 Dicken Medals presented in the 2nd World War, 32 went to pigeons. One cat also received one. His name was Simon and he was Ship's Cat on the HMS Amethyst. He was honoured for gallantry under fire and the disposal of many rats despite shrapnel injuries in 1949.

Oh  - some good news. The rumours of my Dad's neighbour's death were greatly exaggerated. She is alive and well! Neil the taxi driver got it wrong. It's a good thing my Dad had not mentioned it to many people.

She did almost end up with no meals though, as he told the Wiltshire Farm delivery lady when she brought his meals this morning that Mabel would no longer require hers. Fortunately the delivery lady saw Mabel standing at her window watching for the van. Good job she did not dismiss the sighting as  a ghostly encounter. My Dad says he would have given her his meals if it came to it! He only found out the truth when he offered his condolences to her daughter later this morning. She said he was not the first, and it is another lady in the village who has sadly passed away.

I'm home now and waiting for Brian so we can go and fetch the Tesco shopping!
