Trip to Cascais - Lisbon Day 4

BACKBLIP

Here we are on our last day in Lisbon.   In a way it felt like we had been here longer - we've packed so much in to our short time here!  As usual we were awake pretty early, but down to breakfast around 7.30.  There are a load of Americans around the hotel, here for a work conference no doubt.  I met one middle aged lady in the lift, and had to tell her to put on her face mask. (That little strip of cloth causes a lot of issues in America.  ) The first person I've seen not wearing one of course it would have to have been either a Yank or a Brit..  I saw her later on in the restaurant at breakfast without it either, she needed slapped I thought.   Entitled madam!  We took our little cutlery bag of little mini croissants for mid morning snack and Ben filled up his water bottle with fruit juice from the dispenser.

We are dab hands at the metro now, always with the commuters in the morning but we pile in and usually get a seat :-)  The elderly lady gestured to Ben to take his sunglasses off the top of his baseball captain the metro, I think she thought he would lose them without knowing, it was all done by gestures and was quite funny.

We arrived at the big central hub of Cais do Sodre where we got the ferry over the Tejo on Monday, this time getting the train to the beach resort of Caiscais, around 30 mins away, and I'd never been strangely despite being in Lisbon so often and it's so easy to get to!

The main beach is a 5 min walk from the train station so we wandered down to it.  It was only 930 when we arrived on to the beach, there were folks walking their dogs, a personal trainer putting someone through their paces and others in swimming.  It was beautiful, the sea sparkling, soft sand and above all, it was warm......  bliss.  Ben started climbing the rock wall to leap off, throwing himself on the sand, energy needs to be spent!  we wandered along the beach and found a place to set up camp.  We had fresh orange from the nearby cafe, I bought a massive white and blue decorated cotton thrown for 10 euros from an African lady so we spread that out on the sand.  Had our lunch in the Cafe overlooking the beach.  I was the 10 November and we were sitting outdoors eating lunch, having some fun with the waiter, it was such a lovely time.

We had another hour playing on the beach then packed up and walked along to the Marina, then off we went to the train station for the journey back into the centre of Lisbon.  Had a seat on the river wall when there and watched the sail boats drift down the Tejo, I think they were waiting for the sunset.

Last time we were here we found Bomjardim, the amazing spit roasted chicken restaurant.  It was 6 o'clock by now and we were starving!  we sat outside and devoured it, so tasty.  After that it was back on the metro to the hotel and of course, Ben hadn't used up enough energy so had to go swimming and I joined him this time in the hotel pool.

Then it was time to get all packed up as tomorrow we were off back to Scotland.
