Nicky and her Nikon

Afternoon treats

After I walked Xena this morning I went to get groceries. I spent last night planning my menus for the weekend as Luke and Meriel arrive tonight. Just as I was leaving to go shopping Adam phoned and he and Pip will also be spending Saturday night and Sunday here too (after a party in London, as it's easier to get an Uber home after the party than to get back to Cambridge, as after midnight there are no trains running). It will be lovely to have two boys and their girlfriends home this weekend.

Gavin and I were meant to go to London at lunch time as I wanted to look at trading in my second camera for a Nikon mirrorless camera, but after discussing it with the knowledgeable staff at the specialist Nikon store (Grays of Westminster), I have decided, on their advice, to wait until the new models are launched next year as I feel the current models need some improvements in some areas that matter to me and I am hoping this will be rectified with the new models. I have been waiting for the models to improve for a couple of years now and so don't mind waiting another year! So instead of going to London we had a quick lunch in the village at one of the new restaurants - a salad for me and a burger for Gavin. The village has so many new restaurants, all done up during lockdown but of course when they opened up they have struggled to find staff so some cannot be open every day as planned.

In addition to the new restaurants, Gail's Bakery opened up a couple of weeks ago, it has long been a popular bakery/cafe in London. There are always queues out the door and it is very popular since it opened, but personally I am disappointed that they have no gluten free options (which is very poor as most places offer many options), other than a flourless mini chocolate cake*...which somehow found its way into the bag when I was buying a loaf of sourdough! So this is my photo today.

Now I must finish some ironing before starting supper for tonight - tonight's vegan meal is a very simple dish of roasted vegetables, served over pasta with pine nuts and plenty of parmesan/vegan cheese.
