Levity

The insecurity situation affecting our project in the north rumbles on quite alarmingly. A day of trying to do my normal work but needing to be constantly online to contact partners and our team, relaying information to our decision-makers as accurately as I can.

At dinner, some welcome levity. A lively group of filmmakers from the capital had arrived, as one stop on a very long-running tour of Mozambique. It was fun hearing about their travels and I picked up some useful tidbits for Christmas holiday plans. Mozambique distances are fairly vast and slow to cover and the evening reminded me of a recent conversation with a project partner, Catarina. We’d been in the buffer zone of the Park and she remarked that from the point we were at, it was close to Vilankulos on the coast, about 10 hours in a direction she pointed towards. That would count as a short-ish journey by Mozambican standards.

Chameleons always bring additional levity.
