Flower Friday. : : Agave Attenuata

This is as close as I can get to a flower in our garden today. I'm sure I've photographed it many times before but I really like the way the leaves imprint themselves on each other....This one is called 'Red Margin' which is not only descriptive but what makes it an especially striking flower-like plant. We have several in the garden.

It's been a very cold and dismal day today, but we got Spike out for his morning walk before the Conservation Corps arrived to continue their brush clearing. Spike was muddy and it was too cold to sit outside, so we left him in the car while we went to Trail House. I think he thinks of the car as his den, because he's very content in there.

Both David and Pedro, our landscaper, looked at the water in the bottom of the hole in our garden where the giant pot/fountain was, and said that that is the depth where our 'soil' turns to clay. Water seeks its own level which in this case is in the bottom of the hole. Pedro said he could put more good soil in the hole and build it up so that we could plant a tree, so off we went to  the Urban Tree Farm to pick out an olive tree.  Pedro will pick it up and plant it on Monday.

This is the third iteration for this smallish space which was initially a two foot deep swimming pool and then a water feature which we liked, but which lost too much water in the summer to evaporation. Let's hope the third time is a charm....

I'm glad it's Friday....
