Monarchs

A couple of weeks ago we visited the butterflies in Pacific Grove, and today I went over to our own Lighthouse Field to see what I could see. There was a great flitting around in the trees, not the immense population we saw earlier, but they were a bit closer and more active in the sun. There is another shot in the Extras, just to give an idea of the density.

The shot of the Monarch caterpillar is a complete coincidence, seen much earlier today on a clump of milkweed in someone's yard. I saw three or four creatures in various sizes, but it seems too late in the year for them to survive long enough to turn into butterflies.
