Poinsettia

Friday
Laura arrived home last Friday after a work Christmas party with this gorgeous poinsettia arrangement. They’d had a Christmas sock contest, and three of them had tied for the lead, but the other two winners have cats at home, and since poinsettias can be poisonous to cats, they deferred, and so Laura got to bring it home! Today was a gloomy dismal wet day, so I was happy to be able to present you with this for Flower Friday.
My day had started with a check-up at the doctors and, amazingly, I was out within 40 minutes - you often end up waiting at least that long, even at that time in the morning! Then this afternoon, since it wasn’t the weather for outside exercise, Roger and I went for a swim, where we were lucky enough to have a lane each the whole of the time - usually at some point we will end up sharing a lane, rather than sharing with somebody else. In the evening we went to the cinema for the first time in a couple of years, to see the film King Richard, about Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, and how, through his passionate belief in his daughters talent, and his dogged stubborn persistence, battling racial prejudice, they became two of the best ever women tennis players.
