A time for everything

Wrong season!

Saturday
Our gloomy weather continues! The forecast suggests we may see some sun tomorrow - fingers crossed! We were out in the early afternoon at a memorial service at our church. Bob was 97 when he died, but still coming to church every Sunday, he only missed one Sunday before we head the news of his death! He would stand by the door to the sanctuary and welcome everyone. He was a long time member of our Sunday morning Bible study, where he similarly sat by the door, greeting everyone as they came in. He made sure coffee was there every week, and arranged for donuts every week! He was such a warm, caring and giving man. We’ve only known him as a widower, but he had been married and had two sons. He had served in the AirForce, flying as a navigator. He had gone to Ohio University, where he played on the basketball team. Sport and exercise had always remained important throughout his life, no doubt in part explaining his longevity and staying mobile and active. He had worked at General Electric aero engines as Roger had. When Roger was still working they would often exchange a few words about the company, especially how the stock was currently doing. Another wonderful testimony to his nature was the number of people from his neighbourhood who came to the service and shared memories about him, how he walked daily round the neighbourhood, and would always stop and chat, and they had clearly become very close to him. Certainly a life well lived, and he will leave a hole in many peoples lives.
We arrived back home just before the end of the first half of the England vs France World Cup quarter finals, and so settled down to watch the rest. It was sad that England didn’t get to go through, but I felt they played pretty well from what we saw. After that, I went for a brisk neighbourhood walk.
I think someone should tell the person at the end of our street that Halloween has come and gone, so has Thanksgiving, and we are rapidly approaching Christmas! It seems pretty silly really, especially with the house opposite him beautifully decorated for Christmas, so I thought I would tag it for Silly Saturday!
