Lake Lure Vacation: Day 7 …

… Condo to Chimney Rock.

It rained, rained, rained today!  So we had to find some raining day activities as today may be our final day here.

We had heard that the historic 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa had on display some antique music boxes so we did this once we drove in to the city.  We spent a little time in here looking at them all and we even got to listen to one played by one of the Inn keepers.  Very pretty.

Then it was onto Chimney Rock to visit all the tourist shops.  The weather was intermittent between pouring down rain and a light rain.  We also drove past Chimney Rock to photograph the raging French Broad River.  As we were driving along the river I saw the unusual sculpture that you can see in the upper right photo. I thought it might be a rock cairn but it didn’t get washed away in the fast moving current.  It must be attached to the rock underneath it somehow.  In any case it was very cool. Please see Extra photo.

Because the weather was so bad we returned to our condo early stopping at Apple Valley Golf course on the way back.  This golf course is on the resort property.  As you can see by the lower left picture the rain didn’t stop these intrepid golfers from finishing their round!

There was enough of a lull in the rain later on for us to make one final trip down to the lake after supper.  Richard drew a heart in the sand and wrote our initials so he could do some photos of us by the lake.  I snapped a quick photo beforehand.  If you look close you can see the rain hitting the water.

We had an interesting night as it poured down rain all night long.  There was so much rain that there was a flood warning … we could heard the warning sirens blaring well into the night.  And because of this we have decided to cut our vacation short by a day … we will be leaving some time tomorrow afternoon instead of Friday morning.  We hate cutting the vacation short by a day but there’s no sense in sticking around when all it’s going to do is rain.

More on that tomorrow …
