Foulshaw Moss

Two good short walks today.

In the morning we visited Foulshaw Moss. It has a bleak beauty in winter. The very wet ground conditions mean that trees do not survive on most of the peat bog. The Cumbria Wildlife Trust has done a fantastic job of restoring the bog habitat. Large flocks of redwings and fieldfares brightened the morning.

Mid afternoon we visited the saltmarsh near Leighton Moss. The wind was blowing strongly off the sea - J, who feels the cold, was very cold and took some time to warm up on our return. But we couldn’t leave before we watched the sun go down over Morecambe Bay. A glorious site. Extra - one very cold spectator holding on to her hat so it stayed on her head.
