Life is a Challenge!

It's Great to be Out in the Garden!

Well, our weather is certain changeable! This morning it was frosty and car windscreens had to be scraped, but this afternoon we had wall-to-wall blue sky - how fickle, but wonderful to see.

Decided that it was time the roses were pruned but fortunately, didn't need a chain saw and safety gear, just strong gloves and secateurs - it didn't take too long and it was just fantastic to be out in the garden at last. We did stop for a cuppa and biscuit so sat on our garden seat to admire the view - well surveyed and chatted about the work that needed doing - and there is lots to do. Normally, we would be well on but as Spring has been so long coming and because of the cold and snowy weather, we haven't ventured out much at all.

John wanted to sort out one of his raised beds and had bought some lining material as tree roots from outside are limiting the crops, so after he had lined the bed, he had to work hard to shovel the soil back in.

I was disappointed as I had taken some photographs this morning of blue tits going into our nesting box, but my little camera wasn't man enough and the pictures were very grainy, so decided against using them but John was happy to be my Saturday blip!

Today's photograph also shows the rhubarb blipped on 31st January and which is now doing well.

I was amazed as I walked round the garden to see all the new shoots, despite such difficult growing conditions, and it will be exciting to watch the different plants growing again.

John was much happier today and although he now aches from all that digging, I can tell he is pleased to be out "doing" instead of sitting indoors doing endless jigsaws and Sudoku.

Very soon we will be harvesting our crops and that, too, is very exciting - and well worth all the effort - even long ago they realised this!

Work your garden-you'll end up with plenty of food;
play and party-you'll end up with an empty plate.
