Snow's a Blowin'.......

Our Winter Storm Warning did not disappoint. It arrived as predicted and boy, what a storm it was. It dumped snow so deep that it took all day to dig out our neighbourhood! And it was all done by some of our younger neighbours...

It is now after 8PM and the snow plow has to yet come to clear our street...but cleared it is..by our new neighbour Rob of the snow blower!  He worked that snow blower from early morning until after sunset. He actually cleared the street itself so cars could pass through, the sidewalk so dogs could get walked and then at the end of day, the driveways of us older folks on the street so we could get out of our houses!

What an amazing day. We went to bed snow-less last night and woke up this morning to a blizzard that did not stop until late afternoon. The snow is now piled high everywhere - including on my back yard deck.

Some memorable images of the day?  Rob's chocolate Lab in absolute glee, frolicking in the snow, leaping and bouncing up and down, throwing snow every which way;  a neighbour's car stuck in the middle of the uncleared street...and three young men trying to dig it out; strangers trudging past through the knee-deep snow with empty gas cans en route to the local gas station...to fuel their snow blowers? and nary a person afoot without a shovel in hand, ready to help.

It was one of those days when neighbours helped neighbours...when kindness won out...and not just in our neighbourhood. The local evening news was full of stories about people helping each other. There is something about Snow Days  - they seem to bring out the best in people...
