Spot the Ball

Today was Annie's Psychology degree graduation ceremony. We all went along to see her formally presented to the University as a graduate, alongside several hundred others. The ceremony took place at the Barbican which regular blippers will know as an photographic location I (Chris) am quite keen on.

Annie: We're playing "Spot The Ball Mortar Board" here. It's the classic cheesy graduation photo, but we were missing a vital component. It was expensive to hire the "hat" and you weren't allowed them in the ceremony itself, so we were far too tight to get one. So - a twist on the classic game - using the windows as grid references, can you guess which square the Mortar Board is in? Answers on a comment please, prizes of no value will be awarded.

I (Annie) went to the ceremony expecting to feel underwhelmed - but it was very well done, and a great sense of occasion was injected by the highly entertaining Vice Chancellor. It took 7 years of study (even if it was in a "do nothing / cram madly" pattern), and was hard work at times fitting in with other life pressures. It was wonderful to see the mix of proud faces that symbolise the great diversity the Open University supports.

Although today was a lot of waiting around, sitting still and clapping, I hope it's given Immy and Rosie a sense of what they might be doing themselves one day. It was great having them all there.

The OU's motto is "Learn and Live" - and it's never too late to learn something new, no matter how small.
