“Beyond Van Gogh”

Wednesday
Our last day in Salt Lake City. Jen was back to work today, but our flight wasn’t until early evening, so we had time to do something in the morning, and we chose to visit the immersive Van Gogh exhibit currently showing.
I love Van Gogh’s work, and we had been to one of these immersive exhibits once before, some years ago, in the south of France, in a disused stone quarry, which was an amazing setting. This didn’t have quite the magic of that setting, but was still an amazing experience.
His paintings appeared to come to life, covering the walls and floors with light and colour. Through his own words, many excerpts from letters to his brother, set to a symphonic score, it gave you a new appreciation of this tortured artist’s stunning work. The entire presentation took about 20 minutes, and we stayed to see it through twice. There were some chairs, benches and bean bags scattered around the space, or you could just wander around, seeing things from different perspectives. It’s showing in various places around the country at present, so if my fellow Americans get a chance, I would highly recommend it, though I have to say it wasn’t cheap, even with the senior discount, but in my opinion, well worth it. We got some lunch, then headed back to Jen and Jason’s to get our bags, and Jason took us to the airport. A lovely day to wrap up a great visit!
