Zion National Park

Tuesday 4th January
As I mentioned yesterday, Snow Canyon lies quite close to Zion National Park, and just a little east of our route back to Salt Lake City, so we made a detour to pay it a visit. Jen has visited it a couple of times, as have Roger and I, though in our case, that was many years ago. We were blessed with another gorgeous morning, with beautiful cloud formations at times. Unfortunately, we were somewhat limited in what we could do, as for some reason the Scenic Drive was closed, though we never did find out why. They had a couple of ranger cars parked at the beginning of the road, so it appeared to be a temporary closure rather than long term, but we hadn’t seen any signs about it. Nonetheless, we enjoyed a great trail near the entrance to the park, the Watchman’s trail, which climbed to a great vista over the valley, and then we continued along the main road which climbs higher, and finally reaches a tunnel at the border to the park. By this time, the clouds had rolled in, and it was time to start our drive back to Salt Lake City. We couldn’t be too late getting home, as Jen is back to work first thing in the morning.
