The Ascent

Tuesday
We drove downtown late morning to go to Music Live at Lunch at Christ Church cathedral. It was an interesting and most enjoyable program today, Queen City Klezmorim, an ensemble of four, percussion, piano, violin and clarinet, playing “Klezmer music” I wasn’t at all familiar with this phrase, but, quoting from the ensemble’s website,

“ Klezmer music is the “soul music” of the Jewish people. The original Klezmer musicians traveled from shtetl to shtetl, performing at Jewish weddings in the early 18th century. Over decades and centuries, it evolved into a sophisticated musical tradition that is highly emotional and exuberant, and Klezmer and Yiddish dance tunes, love songs, drinking songs, wedding processionals, and liturgical melodies flourished in Jewish communities throughout Eastern Europe. Though it nearly died out a generation ago, it is today undergoing an international renaissance, widely acclaimed and celebrated by Jewish and non-Jewish music-lovers alike.”
After the short lunch time concert, we went across the river for some lunch at a casual place near the striking Ascent building, shown in my blip, completed in March 2008, and housing 70 luxury apartments. We then returned to the Ohio side, and went for a walk along the river.
