I'm going through phases...

Welcome Imbolc; spring is here... possibly. Certainly the bees are back out and clambering all over the viburnum. But as I wandered out into the very front garden, to stand under the fifteen foot tall oak tree that I grew from an acorn some years ago, I was captured by the sunlight on this oak gall.

The Marble Oak Gall wasp builds these tiny incubation spheres for its young. They don't harm the oak - it's a part of being the UK's most biodiverse tree - and begin green then harden to this golden brown inch diameter marble. The wasp (Andricus Kollari) then eats its way out to start the cycle once more.

Janet's had her fourth jab today, and perhaps in a few days we'll have the courage to begin re-entering society... at least, the bits of society that don't have too many people or enclosed spaces! LOL. Thank you all for your kind comments, stars and hearts on yesterday's Kingfisher.
