Life through the lens...

Spen Valley Leisure Centre

We took the car in for it’s MOT this morning.
Pleased to say it passed with flying colours.

However as we had to leave it for an hour or so we decided to walk into Cleckheaton, passing the new Spen Valley Leisure Centre on the way.
Good to see all the hoarding down.
We were impressed with the building, which replaces the old swimming baths built in 1969.
A really dreadful badly built building.
This one is due to open at the end of February.
Costing £15 million it will include a 25 metre pool.
20 x 10 m activity pool with a moveable floor.
Large fitness suite.
2 Fitness studios
2 changing villages ( not sure why they are called “ villages”.)
A cycle studio
and of course a cafe.
I liked the neon lights I could see inside which said
“ Stronger than yesterday “.

Looking forward to having a look round when it is finished.
In the collage you can also see a photo of the Princess Mary Athletics Stadium which was opened in the 1960s. I remember seeing Seb Coe run here many years ago.
Also seeing our eldest grandson and youngest granddaughter run in their school sports day.
Both won their race.

After coffee and bacon sandwiches we walked back along the Spen Valley Greenway. Fortunately after all the bad weather this weekend, it was mild and sunny.
Nice to hear the birds singing, and also saw the first crocus and daffodils.
Really felt like Spring.
