Iceland - Day 5

As expected the weather was pretty awful today - gale force winds, horizontal rain and snow swirling about. After breakfast we headed out to Eystrahorn hoping the weather would be better there. However it was just as bad, when we arrived there we could not even open the minivan door due to the force of the wind, Lee had to turn the vehicle around so that the door was not facing the wind.

I briefly went out to take some photos of the mountain but the conditions were so bad we could not even use tripods as they would just blow over. This is a view of the mountain, you cannot tell that we nearly blew over trying to get the photo! We went back to the hotel and hung around hoping conditions would improve. They did not, so we spent some time going through editing techniques with Lee.

It is always pot luck as to who you meet on these photo workshops, but this group seem really nice and everyone is very interesting. There are two professional photographers in the group - professional meaning their main source of income is from photography - so the standard of the photography is high. The group member from the USA is keeping us entertained with his stories of his life there, having been very senior in the military as an Apache pilot and now a movie producer and photographer.

It has been good to have a day off, which we expected, as when you are in Iceland in February you know that one or two days will be write offs due to bad weather. The extras were taken yesterday.

Tomorrow morning we will be up early, hoping for better weather, and after some photography in this area we will check out and move to our next destination which is Vik. However we have just heard from the hotel staff that the weather tomorrow will still be bad and they mean even close the road back to Vik....

Thank you so much for all the kind comments and hearts, and for continuing to look at my journal when I hardly have time to look at journals.
