As part of my series about Mary Queen of Scots one of the places where she stayed was Dalkeith Castle.  Foundations of the original Dalkeith Castle are just discernible (in the patch of sunlight) across the river among the trees below Dalkeith House (or Palace) in which part of the old castle was incorporated when the new palace was built in 1702.  Several kings and queens have visited the castle and the palace, including Mary who stayed there for a few days in October 1565.
