Lisbon - last day - Saturday

What a busy day!

Another breakfast sitting at the big window of our hotel overlooking the square, sun streaming down. Blowy, but lovely.

We wanted to finish off the route of tram 28, caught in the street outside our hotel to Prazares. Walked from there to LX Factory, which we were really too early to get the full buzz so got the tram back to Cais do Sodre to get the metro to Parque do Nacoes, the modern part of Lisbon, created for Expo 98 to have a walk along the Tejo and go in the cable cars. Changed metro at Alameda to Oriente and out in the lovely sun right next to the Tivoli hotel where Ben and I stayed in November.

Wandered down the walkway but was disappointed the cable cars weren’t working due to the wind. Kept walking for a while then turned back and as we passed them again they were open so we hopped on. Not sure why changed their mind cos it was just as windy! Made for a thrilling ride as it was rocking along!

Our next stop was Cascais so back on the Metro again to Cais do Sodre to get the train there. Forty minutes and paying peanuts (around 3€) in a train with at least five carriages. Same time as the Edinburgh to Glasgow train which is extortionate and rammed with folk, this is what happens when transport is for the shareholders profit rather than customers.

The train hugs the coast and the Atlantic sea was stunning with big waves crashing to shore. Just what we came to see.

Wandered down the prom, locals playing volleyball on the beach, crazy folks in swimming and people sitting outside in cafes. We joined them in the cafe Ben and I had lunch and had a plate of chips :). Walked further round the headland and saw a strange sight - a couple of women sitting with a cockerel, two parrots and an African grey! Taking them a walk :). There was a dodgy bit further along the promenade where sometimes great big waves would crash over the headland and of course it had to be me that got the soaking!! Drenched in salt water…. Ah well it was blowy and sunny so dried quite quickly. We walked quite a bit up to the lighthouse and then back to get the train in to Lisbon which run every 20 mins and there was one sitting ready to leave.

Back around 6:30 starving so popped in to Time Out again as it was just across the road from the station and had chicken Pad Thai. A last walk down to Commercio listening to two very good street performers and back to the hotel for 9:30. Exhausted again and another 20k plus steps.
