La vida de Annie

Nuevo carril bici.

I saw this in the local paper a few days ago, but couldn't believe it and had to see for myself.

Menorca has gone viral this weekend on social networks and the reason has been the comments about the new bike lane that connects the Maó industrial estate with the airport and which has been built by AENA.
A winding route, full of curves instead of straight to avoid streetlights, has generated many comments on social networks and also memes . National media such as Cadena SER, COPE and Nació Digital have echoed the controversy on their respective websites.

The project, to construct a 1175 metre cycle lane, began last July at a cost of €316,000. It was not made clear that it would consist of steep curves along its whole length to avoid lampposts and shrubs. A lot of hilarity has been generated, and the iconic structure has become apparently one of the wonders of the world (well, Spain anyway). As well as the sharp bends, it has humps where power lines had to be surmounted. In short, not fit for purpose: I love it! I don't know how many people cycle to the airport anyway. I may go back to get a better shot of the whole stretch another time, as it's obviously a busy road with nowhere to park. The council are dealing with the problem by placing temporary barriers at each end. Gotta love this place.
