The second half of life..

Waikawa shed

Spent the day still buzzing after yesterday evening's morepork encounter.  I even did the bush walk a couple of times again just in case he was a morepork of habit.  He wasn't.  Also walked down the road to the old wharf/jetty area.  Another piece of history that looks like it will fall to the ravages of weather and neglect.  Makes for a nice pic though.......quite calming in a weird way.

I've been doing some research on Curio Bay.  I had thought I'd go and spend maybe a couple of days there but review after review has talked about a bunch of negatives I don't really feel like dealing with........over-priced, unclean, dodgy parking sites on slopes or sections that are too small, insufficient showers for the size of the camp...........added to that the yellow-eyed penguin numbers (in Curio Bay) have declined to the point of being down to single figures and I'm left feeling that man's impact on this wee slice of paradise has been too great.......The camp used to be a quirky, unique spot to stay with a host of odd but oddly cute features but now it has new owners apparently and it appears to have become more about the business than the experience.  Maybe I'll make a cursory visit then move on.  Sad, but I'm pleased I'd experienced the 'old' camp a few times.  There's still plenty to see in the area - Hector's dolphins in the bay next door or the petrified trees in Curio bay.  I'll see how tomorrow shapes up and decide then.

In COVID news, a lot has changed.  Today the government announced the end of MIQ as we've known it.  This makes total sense given the number of people arriving from overseas and being forced to quarantine is a tiny percentage of the numbers of community cases we're now getting each day.  MIQ kept the virus at bay for long enough for many to enjoy relatively normal lives throughout 2021 with no risk of infection.  Omicron has now got an almost free rein in the community.  Today, 14,663 new community cases were reported; 344 are in hospital and 5 in ICU.  Sure do hope this exponential explosion doesn't last too long........
