Arty Day

Up to the Traverse at lunchtime with R&E to see Oscar By Brian James O'Sullivan - a musical number which was rather good - the SK hated it of course, the actors bursting into song. How the Sound of Music is her favourite film seems to be a contradiction which is best not challenged. I’ll say this though - the pies beforehand were absolutely gash. They used to easily rival the play for enjoyment.
I stayed in town and strolled to the RSA for their New Contemporaries exhibition* which killed a couple of hours. Actually, one of the video installation things with headphones was rather good. And here’s a boat too. I could grasp that. And then I killed another couple of hours in Teuchters. Rafael Behr! A message to Boris: The age of levity is over. The Russia-Ukraine war will shake politics into a new sobriety.
My own sobriety was short-lived after Teuchters - there was a game at Tynecastle (2-0 against the Dons) and then into the Diggers we did press. The age of levity carries on...

* The works flit between abstraction, storytelling, memory and imagination - standing apart from linguistic explanation, they are experienced intuitively: finding a space where every imaginable past of object and viewer can exist simultaneously. Here the viewer can reflect on their own object identity, and in seeing that their story is unlike any other, they can also see that it is also the same as every other.
