Ysbyty Ifan

Today we return to Snowdonia - this time in search of the Roman Bridge in Penmachno. We fail in our mission, but find instead the remains of Cwm Penmachno’s slate quarries, other bridges and yet more beautiful landscapes.

Returning on a twisting single track road that leads eventually to Ffestiniog, we find ourselves on a high moorland plateau, glorious in its sun-streaked bleakness. This, we discover, is part of the Ysbyty Ifan agricultural estate, now in the care of the National Trust. It’s simply magnificent; no time to linger there today - no energy either - but we will return to explore this stunning landscape.

Today’s main - best viewed large - is a view across the moorland, with other scenes in extras.
