One Word:

MISSILE

The Titan Missile Museum, a National Historic Landmark, is only two miles from my house. From 1963-1987, there were 54 TITAN II ICBM sites across the United States as a deterrent during the Cold War. Each carried one nuclear warhead and had a range of 10,000 mi/16,100 km. In 1987, warheads were removed from each and all but one silo were filled with cement.

This is the only remaining site, completely decommissioned. Visitors can view the missile, the control room, the huge engine and experience what must have been the stress on the crew.

Thanks to KangaZu for hosting mono Monday this month.
