Nice Day for It

A day of two halves.   This morning I was guard for a Driver Experience train.   Today's guest driver was celebrating a special birthday and commented that he hadn't expected to actually drive the engine!   Our Driver Experience packages really do offer just that, a half or full day driving a steam engine for one or two 14 mile round trips.   All under instruction from an experienced driver.   His family and friends who travelled in the train (no fare paying passengers travel on Driver Experience trips,) also clearly had a great time.   A tasty buffet lunch at Aber also included the train crew which was a bonus :-)   The weather was superb, a blue sky start although it slowly clouded over.   The view across the valley above Abergynolwyn, while still wintery has a hint of spring growth to come.

After we had returned the train to the sheds at Pendre I popped home and took Meg for a short walk before my paid work for the day.   As well as the DE train this morning, there was also a wedding train.   The nuptials took place at Abergynolwyn with the party of fifty locals returning to Kings at Tywyn Wharf for a sit down three course meal.   I was dressed up in a smart white shirt for front of house duties ... but ended up also doing a heap of washing up!   Always fun working with the motivated team at Kings and as it's always best to over-cater a little at special events I enjoyed a tasty, although hurried tea.

Thankfully, after a ten hour work day today, I should be in for a restful day tomorrow.
