Falling Through

A long walk on snowshoes, doing a 6 km circuit on two lakes. Mostly we walked on snowmobile tracks but we detoured to look at a beaver lodge. Jan was mightily under-impressed, saying it was actually a pile of snow with a few sticks poking out the top. As you can see in the extra this is technically correct!
After looking at the beaver lodge we should have returned to the track but instead we set off across about 100 m of snow field to reach the next lake. That 100 metres turned out to be a long way as we fell through the hard surface again and again. Mostly it was funny but here Jan's feet had glided together and twisted around a little. It would have been easy to twist or sprain something.  However, we all emerged relatively unscathed and started homeward when we reached the next lake.
A day full of warmth and sun and fun.
It was followed by an evening at Rose's, also with much laughter, and the drive home when we saw the Northern Lights - a treat for us, who don't see them so often, and for our visitors, who don't see them at all when at home.
