a lifetime burning

In the upside down

Tiny Tuesday: In the upside down

I found this harlequin 7 spot ladybird underneath the leaf, I'm not sure it was doing there, possibly playing it safe while waiting for some sunshine to arrive  - but from the look of things it has been rolling around in something recently.  If you look carefully you can just see what is I think the tiny clawlike maxilla palp* underneath the antennae on the left of the shot.

*I've tried looking this up on the web,  but you have to be very careful with your search terms once you start asking for diagrams of ladybird mouth parts, if you don't want to be taken by surprise.

Finally I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who enjoyed yesterday's Kingfisher shots, the positive feedback is very much appreciated.
