The King and his Servant

This is Great Staple Tor on Dartmoor. Two of us walked there today to take some photographs and just enjoy some time on the open moors. The tor is an example of an Avenue Tor, where the middle has been eroded away leaving pillars of granite on either side. This shot shows the impressive pillars on one side. I imagine that in past times places like this would have often had mystical significance and their own legends and folklore. When you begin to look at the shape and form of the rocks you can sometimes imagine that they might tell a story. I saw here an ancient warrior king sitting cross-legged his throne. In front of him (on the left) a servant or courier being handed an important dispatch and having secret instructions whispered in his ear. To many it will just be a pile of rocks and maybe you can't really argue with that!
