Hazel

A much sunnier day today. I went for a walk to  our local wildlife area and found some  hazel twigs bearing both the large,  showy, male catkins and  the much smaller, easily overlooked, female flowers where the hazel nuts will form.
This evening  we had been invited to attend  a Vigil for Ukraine in St Pauls church, Winchester. There was a silent lighting of candles, some prayers and readings, and beautiful music for strings played by the Winchester  Camerata. It finished  with  Finzi's lovely "Romance" which, in particular, I thought  brought a sense of hope for peace. It was a simple, yet moving, service, and we were glad to have been present.
