Around the Island

A morning that smells
like spring, with bird song and some
wildlife to enjoy

I left the house at 8:30 heading for McArthur Island. It was cloudy with 5 C. It's a rather quiet morning. Spring break has begun for students.

I drove around the north side of the park to see what was going on in the slough. The ice is gone but the remaining water looks rather stagnant and unattractive. Somehow the ducks are happy there. They are busy swimming circles. Some wait up by the end of the bridge waiting to be fed.

The Canada geese dominate in the park. They are everywhere - on the slough, in the river, browsing through the playing fields and the margins of the Rivers Trail. Many were very loud this morning. I was amused to find one perched on a bench.

I counted four marmots today. They like that exposed bank on the south side by the river. It would be a good place for sunning if we had sun today.

I'm home today with no particular plans.

We have a mainly cloudy day with a chance of showers in the afternoon and a high of 9 C.
