I hobbled to the village for some essential (to Ottolenghi) supplies at the deli. It had 3. Crazy to spend over £11 and none of it actual food. But it’s justified in the name of research - does it improve the flavour and is it worth it?

On the way I spotted our neighbour’s Morris Minor parked by his lovely magnolia, then I saw the Hillman. They are both ageing better than I am.

We drove to Morpeth for our 4th Covid jab, Pfizer this time. Despite the clinic having signs asking people to wear masks several were not and it was really crowded. Val’s brother and sister, both over 75, have Covid.

Tonight we are going to the Theatre Royal to see Rigoletto. I hope we are ok. Masks are requested but Ailie said at the ballet few wore them.

The BBC announced that Chris Mullin “will be allowed” to keep his bomber source secret. He said at our U3A meeting no matter what the verdict, he would never divulge it and he was prepared to go to prison.

As for the trolls who are saying Nazarin should be grateful to our government and go back to Iran if she doesn’t like it here, when what she was doing was exercising one of the freedoms they are so proud of, the right to free speech - what kind of country do we live in? Oh yes, one with a government which will be prepared to send refugees to prison, one which gives their oligarch chums days to dispose of their assets, whose leader lies. Rant over - temporarily.
